RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENSURING THE SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

In order to safeguard the personal data of its customers, TransBank adheres to the laws and regulations of Mongolia and implements internationally recognized standards and requirements into its daily operations. The Bank also continuously enhances its services by adopting modern technological solutions and methodologies in a timely manner. However, ensuring information security also requires the active involvement of the customer.

We are pleased to share the following recommendations to help you protect your personal information.

Internet Banking Security Guidelines:

  1. If you are required to share personal information, ensure that you fully understand the purpose for which the data will be used, how it will be processed, and what measures are in place to safeguard it;
  2. Avoid saving your username and password in your web browser;
  3. When using email or social media platforms, activate and regularly use two-factor authentication (2FA) in addition to securing your accounts with strong passwords;
  4. If you log into your internet banking account from a device that is not your own, always log out completely after use and avoid saving or registering the device;
  5. Do not access your internet banking account using public or untrusted computers or Wi-Fi networks (e.g., internet cafes or public service centers). If access is unavoidable, make sure to log out using the “Logout” button when finished;
  6. Before confirming any transaction, double-check that the recipient’s name, account number, and all relevant details are entered correctly;
  7. Regularly review and monitor the devices that have access to your internet banking account;
  8. Routinely verify your transaction history, including both incoming and outgoing transfers, via your internet banking statement.

Password Security:

  1. When creating a password, it is important to use a strong and unique password that is difficult to guess. Avoid reusing the same password across multiple accounts, such as email, social media, and online shopping platforms, as this poses a significant security risk;
  2. Make sure your password includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using easily guessable information such as your name, date of birth, or phone number. Additionally, it is important to change your password regularly as part of good security practice;
  3. Do not write down or store your password in an unsecured place, and never share or disclose your password to anyone;
  4. Avoid entering your password on suspicious websites or links that may appear in emails, messages, or while browsing online;
  5. Never share one-time verification codes (OTPs) received via SMS or email with anyone.

Device Security:

  1. Register only trusted devices that you regularly use to access Internet Banking. Frequently review the list of logged-in devices and remove any devices that are no longer in use or appear unfamiliar to prevent unauthorized access!
  2. Ensure that the operating system, software, and mobile banking application on your smart device are always updated to the latest versions and receive regular security patches!
  3. Install and regularly use antivirus and security software to protect your smart devices from viruses, malware, and phishing attacks.
  4. Before making any transaction via Internet Banking, always verify that the website URL begins with “https://” and is protected by an SSL security certificate;
  5. Avoid altering your device’s built-in security settings. Refrain from performing Jailbreaking or Rooting on your smartphone or any other device, as it may compromise its security!
  6. Only use official and trusted applications, and carefully review the permissions requested during installation especially those asking for access to sensitive or personal information!
  7. Turn off Bluetooth when not in use. Leaving Bluetooth enabled may expose your device to potential remote access or cyberattacks.

We encourage you to follow these recommendations to improve your information security and help prevent potential risks!

HOW TO RECOGNIZE A PHISHING E‑MAIL?

Phishing is a type of cyber‑attack that uses fraudulent e‑mails, messages, or websites to deceive individuals into disclosing personal information (such as passwords or card numbers).

Example: an e‑mail purporting to be from a bank that requests your password.

When you receive an e‑mail, routinely check for the following suspicious indicators.

Sender (From):

  1. Verify whether the message originates from an unknown or suspicious address.
  2. Examine the sender’s address for subtle manipulations or typographical errors (for example: @facebok.mn, @mazon.com, @rnongoldank.mn, @transbank.com etc.), or characters swapped to resemble a legitimate domain.

Recipient (To / CC):

  1. Note whether you have been included together with many unknown recipients in the TO or CC fields, which may indicate a bulk or fraudulent message.

Subject Line:

  1. Be cautious of subject lines that are alarmist, unusually attention‑grabbing, or that appear to be replies to messages you did not send.
  2. A subject line that does not correspond to the e‑mail’s content is suspicious.

Message Body:

  1. Promises of prizes, rewards, or lottery winnings that seem too good to be true.
  2. Messages that create urgency or fear and demand immediate verification of information (e.g., “Your account has been hacked,” “Your access will be suspended”).
  3. Attempts to persuade you to click links or open attachments.
  4. Requests that pressure you to act within a short timeframe.

Links (URLs):

  • Hover your cursor over any link to preview the actual destination before clicking. A link that appears as www.amazon.com may instead redirect to www.xyzabc.net, a suspicious IP address (e.g., 160.154.156.*), or another fraudulent URL.

  • Be wary of emails that contain links with no visible anchor text or only a bare URL.

  • Pay attention to subtle domain variations intended to deceive (for example: transbank.com, transbankmn.mn, trans-bank.mn); do not assume similarity implies legitimacy.

FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH DIGITAL BANKING SECURITY GUIDELINES

Dear Customer,

Because your personal information can be exploited to commit online fraud, please protect your privacy and follow the security recommendations below.

  1. Use unique usernames: Do not create usernames that are easily guessable (for example, phone numbers, your name, or date of birth). Use a distinct username for each online banking service.

  2. Use strong passwords: Avoid common words or easily guessable personal information such as birth dates, phone numbers, or names.

  3. Use dedicated passwords: Do not reuse passwords from social media, email, or other websites for online banking; instead, create unique login and transaction passwords for each online banking service.

  4. Keep passwords secure: Never share your passwords with others, nor store them in unprotected locations. Change your passwords regularly, and always log out when you finish using internet banking.

  5. Verify recipient details: Always confirm the account holder’s name before initiating any transfer via internet banking.

  6. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of protection beyond your password for account access, loans, transactions, and other services. Do not disclose one-time codes or 4–8‑digit authentication numbers received by SMS or email to anyone.

  7. Monitor account activity: Regularly review your account transactions. Enable email and SMS notifications for transactions, and immediately report any suspicious or unauthorized activity to the police and to the Bank.

  8. Beware of phishing emails and messages: The Bank will never request your personal information, internet banking username, or password via email or message. Before clicking links or opening attachments received by email, SMS, or other channels, verify the sender’s authenticity and refrain from submitting personal data, usernames, or passwords.

  9. Use secure devices: Avoid using public or shared devices and unsecured public Wi‑Fi to access internet banking. Install and maintain reputable antivirus and security software on the devices you use for online banking to ensure a secure online environment.
